Why wont they ever tell??

Question

Why wont you guys ever tell your girlfriend how much you paid for a gift?
For example.
My ex-boyfriend bought me some jewelry( dont know why) and he wont tell me how much he spent for it. Nor will he tell me why he bought it.

He did not steal anything. He actually paid for it with money that he earns.
(works for his uncle)

Who cares, you have jewelry and he apparently likes you enough to buy you something without a reason. Just enjoy it! :)

Why do you care? If you think that he paid too much, you will probably act shocked and make him feel bad that he overpaid; if you think that he paid too little, you will probably accuse him of not loving you because he gave you a cheep gift.

Have you ever heard the expression that "you should never look a gift horse in the mouth"? In other words, never criticize a gift; just accept it graciously.

because ettiquette says that you scrape the price off. it's the giving, not the cost of the item.

and he might be afraid to tell you because:

a. you'll say he was cheap for only spending x

or

b. you spent that much? now what kind of sex does he expect from me?

in either case, don't ask about the price. and i think you should know why he bought you something - he want's to get back with you - and he thinks that buying expensive things is the way to go.

Because people like you who care about the price will either a) make a fuss of how expensive it is (if it cost $$$) or b) dump on how crappy it is if you know it didn't cost anything. Ever heard the phrase, "Don't look a gift horse in the mouth??"

I think its because they don't want you to feel bad for how much they paid for it. because my ex boyfriend did the same thing.. I guess they just don't want us to feel bad for spending money on us..
