Because they are in danger of learning science in school, and because they will be exposed to the view that all humans are human; they will be exposed to other cultures and religions that don't believe exactly what they believe, and will be expected to understand that those other people are not evil by nature.

They will be exposed to and (GASP!) possibly become friends with children who do things (such as read Harry Potter, OZ, and other "Satanic" books, or go to movies, or watch TV, or listen to music) they don't approve of -- or who love their parents and siblings (if any are gay).

Because they will be taught the value Equal Rights and the principle of Equal Protection Under the Law, as well as the Constitution's prohibition of forcing one's religion on every citizen.

These things are anathema to those who believe the Earth is a few thousand years old, and that everyone who doesn't live according to the Evangelical, narrow, limited view, and doesn't spend all their time trying to force everyone to live, act, and think as they think, is evil.

Not all home schoolers are Evangelicals. Many parents simply want their child to get a better education than they believe (with some reason) they will get in the schools available where they live.

But you asked about Evangelicals.

The above is my understanding of the main reasons why they favor home schooling.

There is a local home school group that is very Christian based and their emphasis is the Christian upbringing. They share textbooks and also have a home school "school" where they have classes in certain subjects where the parents don't feel qualified. They also have home schoolers day at one of the local ski areas - a Thursday - when the other kids are at school.

Now if I had children I would home school for pretty much the opposite reason - due to pressures there is very little mandatory science taught here (since they cant teach ID the wont teach anything I guess) and I would home school just to give a more rounded education in that area.

I became familiar with homeschoolers in college. I was "proud" of my expensive prep school education. They had small classes, maybe five in their grade. Yet, I soon leared the homeschooled kids had an academic advantange. Then I started reading and it turns out they do consistently better on standardized tests than normal groups. I think Stanfort ends up accepting around 1 of every ten home schooler. Other than the social draw backs, which can be mitigated, I think it is a good way to go.

Actually, a lot of them don't want them being influenced by the other children, but some of it has to do with being 'brainwashed' by the educational material. Even though, keeping them at home and not educating them about other people's beliefs is just as much brainwashing.

Anyways, I would never put my kid in a public school. I'd put them in a private school, and if I couldn't do that I'd homeschool them. The public school system is screwed up, plain and simple.

not all home schoolers are Evangelicals...I'm a "godless, atheistic evolutionist" liberal home schooler.

I home school for academic excellence.
I home school so no one denies my kid PE and then wants to put him on Ritalin to make him sit at a desk all day doing mind numbing busywork.
I home school so he can learn to relate to people of all ages, not just kids his own exact age.
I home school because I don't want Exxon or religious fundamentalists determining his science curriculum.
I homeschool because social Darwinism isn't socialization, and being in the real world is.

We're not Evangelicals but our daughter is home schooled because we don't want her in an enviroment that is ungodly, they're constantly celebrating holidays or birthdays, foul language amongst students, among other things, don't like them teaching the farce of evolution either, just as the Bible says; bad associations spoil useful habits. 1 Corinthians 15:33

I'd imagine it's to provide a more "Christian" education, and a safer enviroment when there is an increased amount of violence in public schools.Parents may also be wary of the way homosexuality is promoted as an acceptable lifestyle,as well as their concerns about the way sex is promoted.Combine that with the evidence that homeschoolers do well in college and SAT's and I think you've got the answer.

Jewelle, i'm an evangelical Christian and that i imagine you're overgeneralizing. i understand lots of Christians who deliver their youthful babies to public or inner most colleges. extra many times than no longer. And those who opt for to homeschool gained't only be doing it for non secular motives. it would want to because there are psycho killers capturing youthful babies in college. it would want to be through bullying and suicide epidemics in college. it would want to be through youngsters who get abducted on a thanks to or from college. it would want to be because they only do not opt for to attend to the schedules of diverse babies going to distinct colleges for 8 hours an afternoon. yet with all that stated, there is no longer some thing incorrect with conserving your babies from evil impacts. each figure does it....

So they can secretly plan their attacks to take over America by force in their baements through a complex network of satalites launched by TV Churches who make millions of dollars through TV ratings and large donations from Deion Sanders types. Just a theory of course.

Who would want there kids in a poorly educated system like our public schools.....Did you know that 9/10th's of todays kids can't do simple division problesm...or can write in proper english terms? Educations in US is laxs, and I myself would homeschool my children if for no other reason then to teach them how to speak, and how to do math without a caculator. But taking it a step farther, I would have them homeschooled for the sake of a good enviorment to work in...I don't want my children exposed to sex, drugs, guns, and gays...all by age 12. Those things will come in time, but certianlly not at such a young and niave age! And, to go ever farther, yes I would have them for the sake of teaching them that God is REAL and that he is ALIVE and WELL and WORKING in all of OUR lives! My children need to be brought up not being down graded, but being encrouaged...Honestly, would you send your little girl when she was 6 years old into a harsh enviroment, where she would be picked on, down graded...even a potital for beings sexcually abused? Would you do that to her? Would you let her know what gays were, and how when one of your friends is hugging you, they might actually be looking for a way to touch you? Would you tell her that at 6? Would you let her be harmed like that at 6? Would you let her go in, and be shot...Or a teacher to take her away and abuse her? I wouldn't, and honestly I don't see how anyone else would have the heart to do that to their child...
I am not down grading all schools, some aren't like what I have mentioned...but others are...If I lived in a smaller town, maybe I would let my child go to public school. But in a town as large as the one I am in...the risks are to high, and the rewards not enough!
God bless you
Kat
