It is a bit of a problem if your dog is helping herself to the cookies as she will simply be consuming them in far too great of a quantity. An occaisional cookie, however, is not going to be a problem. Many other responses have referred to chocolate chip cookies being a grave danger, it is, again, a matter of quantity and concentration that leads to chocolate or sugar sickness. Moderation is key. . .and a more secure cookie jar!!

Since all these posts are so old, by 8 years now, I thought I would update answers with my comments. Seeing now, in May 2015, that there are so many recalls on dog food and dog treats, I decided it s time to make my dog more homemade food. I ve had dogs since 1952. All of them have had long healthy lives. They were all fed half dog food and half people food, and some of them in the far past were fed just people food.
Now as of today, there has been a recall on rawhide sticks, which my dogs absolutely love and I have been giving them these sticks since 1985, with no problems. However because of the recall, I have decided to substitute 2 different treats for my dog: Storebought Milkbone dog biscuits to which I put peanut butter on, and also my homemade oatmeal cookies with less sugar, no raisins and no chocolate. My dog has eaten these homemade oatmeal cookies before. There are also a lot of homemade dog treat recipes on the internet. However regarding oatmeal cookies, they are easy to make and you can change the recipe to make it better for your dog and even yourself.

As long as the cookies are in moderation AND she is not allergic to oatmeal, you should be fine. however, if she is getting to them herself you need to find a new home for the cookies.

There are dog recipes out there where you could make your own dog treats. A lot of them use whole grain flour and oatmeal. So they are actually good for your dog. (better than the sugary oatmeal cookies she's currently getting into) Back in october, I made my dog a birthday cake out of whole wheat flour and vanilla. And cream cheese! There are some worthwhile recipes out there!

You will not be giving a dog enough of anything to worry about with an oatmeal cookie, and I am yet to see a dog that doesn't go nuts over them.

Sweets like suger and salt aren't that good for dogs. Oatmeal cookies are fine if they don't have choclate.Homemade are best because they dont have preservatives and stuff.
Or just go to a pet store and look for a dog treat similar.

It's best not to feed dogs people food - it leads to begging and fat dogs. But oatmeal cookies are probably not the worst as an occasional treat.

Oatmeal can be hard on the dog's digestive system. I would refrain from feeding it cookies at all unless they come out of a "Milkbone" box. Sugar is BAD for dogs, and Oatmeal cookies have sugar.
