As with any church always hold what the minister says to what the Bible says and if they consistently disagree...find another church that really studies the bible.

In the 1970's, I was a member of UPCI. As a new convert, everyone was kind and loving toward me. However, any member who deviated from UPCI's dress code, visited a physician for a medical issue, watched a news cast on TV, or even questioned a doctrinal teaching, was publically reprimanded and accused of being in league with Satan. Not all congregations were this radical but some were and I was a member of such a radical group. I was a young woman then but the scars are deep. I left the church even though the minister affirmatively predicted that God would kill me for leaving. That I think, are the characteristics of a destructive cult.

Please don't get involved with these people. I have come out of both the UPC and Assembly of God. Please instead of getting involved with this doctrine read Joel chapter 2, which they claim to be a fulfilling of this prophecy then go to Acts chapter 2 and see and understand that Peter said they fulfilled that prophecy, so if Peter and his friends fulfilled it what is done today is not in line with scripture. Then read 1 Corinthians chapters 12, 13 and 14 and understand what the scripture says about the Holy Spirit and tongues and understand the strict guidelines Paul set for these gifts and also understand that they have ceased.
