Before a test, I tend to get nervous, nervous about getting a good grade or if I will even complete the test! Sometimes, this angst causes me to not be able to think straight. In the past, jitterbugs have made me blank on the answer.

What can I do to control this? PLEASE HELP!

When I was in college I was the QUEEN of test anxiety. What you said brought it all back. What I ended doing that helped me a great deal is my university had a class on test anxiety. Mine was more with math. Check with your school. You can also request to take the test separately so that you don't feel classroom stress. I added a link that has info on test anxiety.

As a teacher, I see students who get the "jitters" all the time. Here are the tips I teach them.

1. Study and complete your work during the class/course that help you to prepare for these tests. There is nothing like being ready in the 1st place.

2. The night before, eat a good nutritious meal and drink plenty of water 24 hours before the test. (Your brain needs fuel and water)

3. Don't stay up all night and "cram" for a test. Studies show that those who do hurt themselves test-wise due to lack of sleep over those who didn't cram at all and recieved a good night's sleep.

4. Before you take the test, if you can, have a stick of gum or piece of candy ready. The sugar will give you a small "boost" that can actually help calm you down.

5. Positive affirmation. Tell your self all the positives. You have studied, you've used all of these tips, YOU ARE READY.
Take a deep breath, relax and kick butt!

6. Learn a few relaxation techniques. Deep breathing, muscle contraction and release methods can slow down an out of control heartbeat and help regulate your breathing.

The best thing to do is not cram for exams but to keep up with reviewing well before the test. The night before do a quick review and be confident in the fact that you are well prepared.Once I started doing that and then relaxing before the test I was much more successful.

the best way i found to get rid of the pre-test jitters was to do something physical before the test. it helped me forget about the test for a little while and helped me relax. before the test i would block everything out of my mind and take several deep breaths before even looking at the paper.
when i came to a question that i wasn't sure about i'd say a quick prayer
hope this helps

hmmm thats not good but you can minimize its effects by taking a brisk 15 minute walk before the test or doing jumping jacks..any sort of exercise basicly. you get those pre test jitterbugs because you are anxious, you're body is creating adrenaline and that is blocking connections in your brain. exercise and laughing create endorphins which enhance connections in your brain and it will help you think clearer. you are scared of failing the test or doing poorly on it and when you are scared your body creates adrenaline.

You need to learn relaxing techniques and meditate before a test. You can visualize yourself getting a 100 or A+ on the test.

I work at a college and the best thing I know of is to study well in advance, roll play or have some one shoot the ?'s at you while you are doing laundry or such and afterward use deep breathing exercises while reminding you self that you are smart, qualified and capable.
