that is so childish! People are people no matter how much meat is on the darn body! there are more problems going on in the world then for us to be judging people on who much they weigh, its noones buisnees and noone has a right to jugdge about it. I find most people who are overweight that became my friends were way more wonderful beautiful trustworthy people then friends that were stick thin. I am very little my self but when i see my friends i never see the weight i see the eye and the soul! God bless you all !

I was not overweight until about eleven years ago. Since then, I have had three children, suffer with depression, take medications for being diabetic and have had injuries that have resulted in me not being as mobile as I once was. I use to be athletic. Now I'm not. I am in fact obese. I once heard a lady say that while she was extremely overweight she started walking around her block to help take off a few pounds. While doing so, someone drove by and started yelling at her then threw a hamburger at her. I thought that she was exaggerating. Then, one day, I went to the mall with my daughter. I was pushing her in a stroller in front of me and there were several young men walking behind me. They were making fun of me by saying "BOOM BOOM BOOM" every time a took a step.

Since, then, I go out in public as little as possible. My children have told me that they think I am beautiful as does my husband. They tell me that they don't think I am as fat as what those people who were making fun of me were acting like. But what they did was very hurt full and damaging.

The sad thing is, I have a membership at a women's club, but I don't have the courage to go because the last time I went, the women there were so thin and healthy and a lot of them stared at me when I walked in. When I meet a thin person face to face, she usually has a sympathetic look/smile on her face as if I need pity. I'm not treated as a normal person.

I don't know how to deal with these things. So my life continues to spiral downhill... I guess until I die. And yet, thin people think that it is ALL MY FAULT because I am the way I am....

Its the media and, as far as I can tell, american culture. I am a proud american but yes i think wieght is over rated. I have been on both sides of the "scale" and am happy in the middle but it is the first thing people see when a person walks into a room and the easiest to pick on but no it doesnt make it right in the slightest.

I agree with you academically, but in truth people do judge you on weight. So, it becomes a terrible burden for many young ladies because even though they may be thin, it's just not quite thin enough for society who judges people by the ridiculously thin model on TV and in magazine ads. So, these poor girls that pop on and say "I'm 5' 6" and 98 lbs. Am I fat?" I just want to cry for them, because despite being so thin, they still do not feel appreciated as being thin enough. I hate it too.

The other problem with how weight is viewed is ironic. Way back when, fat was beautiful because it meant you were wealthy. Now, fat is seen as a failure in the person, a sign of laziness and a total lack of self-control.

It is definitely wrong to judge people, even with a criminal; because the criminal may repent later and become a great saint.
The society has its institutions for judgement to maintain order; while individuals should only observe the principle of mutual love and respect, even to our own juniors.

Amen sister. I agree with you wholeheartedly, I don't know what's up with people these days. Do you know I've actually heard multiple surveys and read multiple articles that said by todays standards Marilyn Monroe, who is one of the greatest beauties of all time, would be considered fat. That is so sad.

Because that is the way the grand ole USA works...we are judged when people don't even know us because of how we look. It isn't like that in other parts of the world. Wonderful place we live in, ain't it?

I wish there were more people out there like you!! One of my best friends is like you. When i tell her i want to lose weight she yells at me because she tells me i don't need to. And i'm on the heavier side. She's thin..but no stick thin or anything...she's healthy.

Some people are just shallow and some are just plain ignorant and rude. Shame on them and Yay for you, you sound like you really have a good head on your shoulders. Bless you for being the person you are.
