That does sound like a good deal, Jared. The action alone should be worth that. Check the barrel to make sure it isn't worn out. Try fitting a loaded .8mm Mauser bullet into the end of the barrel. If it goes in all the way, the barrel is probably shot-out and will need to be re-lined or replaced by a good gunsmith. If it is snug and won't go in all the way the barrel is probably okay. Clean the bore and check for pits. If it is free of pits you should have a good barrel. Particularly if just for plinking it sounds like your Mauser will work out well.
Best,

The Mauser action is world renowned. Its the best most dependable action you can get. Most of your high dollar rifle manufacturers still use a version of it. I will post a link to more info about it.
The K98 was an awesome weapon. But it was a bolt action facing the M-1 Garand semi auto and we all know how that turned out.
For a have around or fun to hunt with firearm, it can't be beat. Try to find a true German Mauser. The Mausers made in the captive country's are ok but the "Original" German ones are the best.

Mauser is a great bolt action. I have two myself and love them. But like others have been saying take it to a gunsmith and get it checked out before you shoot it. For 150bucks I'd say your getting a good deal as the k98 was the model that was used in WWII. Yeah you got a good deal and I wish you the best of luck shooting it. If you want some more detailed info on mausers email me and I will see what info I can dig up for you.
Hope that helps

That could be a great deal for a shooter or a poor deal for a wall-hanger. Depending on when and where it was made and how much it's been used/abused, it's probably OK, but you should have it checked by a gunsmith to know what you have. Some are great, and some are worn out pieces of junk that were slopped together with poor materials at the end of the war, and the parts don't match, so even if you decide to buy without further investigation, you should certainly get some reassurance before you shoot it.

Be careful and first have it inspected by an expert. Some of those mausers are from the early 20th century and may be worn out. Also check to see if it has a Fabrija (sorry I can't find its proper spelling) on the outside of the action. The folks that made fancy jeweled eggs for the Czar also made a lot of mausers. If it is an old action not from them, you may wish to be even more careful.

I used to artwork on the gun save right here on the city, I did each and every of the upkeep and refinished each and every of the shares, the owner went nuts procuring previous surplus rifles, Mausers via the ton, of each and every of the Mausers he have been given in, the Spanish Mauser became the suitable. It became an incredibly intense high quality rifle, properly made, good in good condition and end, the countless areas have been properly above the different rifles. a number of those rifles he have been given have been organic junk. the different Mauser became the 1895 Chilean, made in Berlin,?? i think of. i could could desire to examine, in spite of if it did no longer have the thumb cut back, had a ten around detachable field magazine and became re-barreled to 7.sixty two nato. very intense high quality in good condition and end. countless milled areas. and for sure the k98 is a good one too. i'm no longer loopy approximately 8mm. it is the reason I have been given the 1895.

In which country was it manufactured? Mauser action is very dependable and easily sporterized. If in good condition, 150 sounds good. The barrel is probably shot. Is it a 'stair step' barrel, if you can see it. Issue Mauser's, of course, have barrel coverings.
