No You Dont. But most Presidents have

In Modern times (WW2 and Up) EVERY president except one has served in the Military.

That one is President Bill Clinton who was literally a draft dodger. His number came up and he refused to report for duty.

Bush was NOT a draft dodger. he was never drafted. He served vountarily and recieved an honorable discharge.

To find another President to have not served after Clinton you have to go all the way back to Franklin Delano Roosevelt who had a medical excuse. He was crippled with Polio and was in a wheelchair.

Military service is not required in the United States. The armed forces are all voluntary. I went in because I did not want to go to college immediately after high school, and I wanted to join the Army since I was five. I am glad I did! Those were the best years of my life and I lived in Europe for most of my time. I saw things nobody else who has not been there saw, and made friends with Germans and socialized and learned a lot. Then I went to college. There is nothing on the books presently in the United States about making military service mandatory. You have a bad teacher who is feeding you rubbish.

Nope they do not need to serve in the military, but it does help.

As stated earlier the only requirements are:

US Citizen
Over the age of 35?
And I believe that they to have resided in the US for the last 15 years?(not sure on this one, kind of remember it from school)

Actually this is the correct wording:

Age and Citizenship requirements - US Constitution, Article II, Section 1

No person except a natural born citizen, or a citizen of the United States, at the time of the adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the office of President; neither shall any person be eligible to that office who shall not have attained to the age of thirty-five years, and been fourteen years a resident within the United States

No...it is not one of the requirements set down in the Constitution. It might seem that way since every President up until Clinton had served in the military.

No, prior military service is not a requirement. Bill Clinton had no military background. I am almost positive he is the only US president without mil. experience.

In america, no, but it was an unwritten rule/requirement for awhile, back when people voted in part on a candidates actual public (government related) service, and when serving was in fashion with the liberals, not like now.
