My family and I are looking to move around NYC. However we dont want to live in the city, but we want to find a easy way to commute there for work. Any ideas? What is a good, affordable, and family friendly?

And if you want to live north of the city Westchester, Putnam or Dutchess County in New York or Fairfield County in Connecticut, there is the Metro North Railroad with 3 main lines to serve you. The Hudson Line goes up the west side of Westchester County along the Hudson River shore, the Harlem Line runs up the central part of Westchester and the New Haven Line runs along the north shore of Long Island Sound to eastern Conn.

Check out Jersey City. The Path train is there and its a straight shot to NYC. If you live in Long Island Be prepared to spend a good chunk of change for the LIRR as well as the metrocard for the subway. If you live in queens or brooklyn there is only one fee and thats the metrocard

Depends what you consider affordable. New York Metropolitan Area (city and suburbs) are generally pretty expensive. I don't know much about the whole area, but I live on Long Island, in Nassau County. I guess my town is medium income, but the less expensive houses here are 400k or more. I hope this helps, good luck in your search!
