Common Biblical mistranslation. The Sea of Reeds was parted, not the giant Red Sea. And it probably just temporarily dried out. Don't rely on Hollywood for Biblical or spiritual information.

God doesn't do anything anymore. In fact, he never parted seas at all, since it's all a myth. Ever notice how, the farther back you read in the Bible, the more wondrous the miracles? This is because the farther removed people were from the source of the stories, the more embellished and exaggerated the stories became. It's like the game of "Telephone," but on a much grander scale.

If there was a God, and he could do miracles, it would be very useful if he could part seas, lakes, etc. Just think of all those shipwrecks on the bottom of the world's oceans and seas. You could call upon the power of God to part the water, then go down and retrieve the treasure!

We don’t really know whether God has done things like that or not today. There was a hurricane heading straight for Houston sometime in the recent past and in the middle of the Gulf it turned and went straight up the border between Louisiana and Texas. I believe that God kept it from destroying Houston.

But the reason he parted the Red Sea is because he planned to use the Jewish nation to bring our savior into the world.

God does not seem to do much of anything anymore. According to Christian legend, that religion’s supreme being was a miracle making maniac 2000+ years ago, parting seas, flooding planets, and smiting sinners right and left.

Now, the best we get is a some vague image on half-eaten grilled cheese sandwiches, dusty windows, and the ubiquitous tortilla.

What’s the deal? Is God tired? Is he under the weather? Drunk? Getting laid? Maybe it is just as simple as he was never there.

Why should we believe the folktales of some quasi-historic semi-nomadic Semitic goat herders who lived thousands of years ago? Why don’t we still practice their medicine and follow other aspects of their lifestyle? I don’t know anyone who owns any goats. I don’t even know where to get a goat, or what I’m supposed to do with it if I did get one.

Back then when God did part the waters He dwelt with man in Spirit form and done all sorts of neat things, they lived under a differ ant law back then too so Jesus showed up, done some neat stuff made it easier for us to seek out God, and left us and said the next time anything comes from Heaven the sinners ain't going to like it if they don't accept Jesus as their Savior.

Hurrmph....

Ok, hang with me.
The red sea parting was a symbol of salvation.
The parting sea, made a way for God's people to escape the pending punishment by the Egyptian army. It's kinda deep, it takes some study. The Red sea is symbolic of the red blood of Christ.

Budget cuts...

You should see what happened to Purgatory

I will second the unibomb... wait a minute, are you really... uh, nevermind.

The thing about the Bible is that it was most likely not written for historic purposes (myths don't play into that too well, except as a study on the culture's use of myth). And certainly most of its writers knew they were copying their myths from others. This is evident whenever "facts" in the Bible can't be validated with other sources.

Because God has already proved Himself to be the only true God, through His miracles & prophecys that have been fulfilled, so He doesn't need to do it anymore as history has proved Him right !!! There are people who believe that God parted a swapy reeds / marshes i have no problem with that, as it is even more of a miracle that God drowned Phoarahs army in 18 inches of water !!!

What do you call things like the tsunami in indonesia? Or earthquakes in idian pakistan(or is it palestine? Pardon me if I said the wrong nation) borders when they were in great turmoil and wars over a border? I mean the splitting of the Red Sea was a great proof of THE GOD, but that was with the presence of a prophet of GOD. I don't know if you know anything about the Hindu religion, but there is an avatar of vishnu named kalki that has yet to come. He is the last avatar of vishnu that is destined to come when the last of the devotees was no more. In my religion(islam), that was directed to the prophet muhammad(pbuh). Others will mock my truth, but what else does not get belied? Life. Kalki is defined as "destroyer of filth". Whom shall come with the wrath of nature and set the world for anew. He is said to come at the end of kali yoga. A stage of life we are in right now. Basically, a time of great turmoil and disbelief. I guess we just have to wait for him to come and then the fury of nature will take it's toll on the earth. But most will look to science for the answers, when mine are purely spiritual/religous based. And with the parting of the Red Sea, that was for destroying those who were chasing him planning to kill moses(pbuh). I am sure proofs like that were in abundance during that time. Just not as great as those that were revealed to moses(pbuh). PEACE!

The One True God is parting greater seas in the world of creation and the world of revelation.
Today, man can run away from his slavery by soaring through various galaxies and through millennia of glorious civilizations. He has no more fears of wild beasts, of phantoms, of Pharaohs...
