has anyone ever bought anything from adorama.com or usedcamerabuyer.com? I was looking at lenses trying to find the best site to buy things from. Any help would be appreciated

I have not used either one. Adorama is a Better Business Bureau member and has a satisfactory rating although if you look on the BBB's site you will see that they have had more than just a few complaints. Usedcamerabuyer.com is not a member but only has 2 complaints against them in the past 3 years.

The respective reports are bellow.

Personally I wouldn't buy something that I would spend a bunch of money on from a site I never heard of without doing some research, and these two wouldnt cut it for me, but thats a personal choice.

Go to www.resellerratings.com to check on companies before you buy,

For used, www.keh.com. Utterly reliable in ratings and service.

New, www.bhphoto.com. The Mecca of camera stores.

Adorama is all right, I have bought from them if B & H was out of stock, and Adorama will still ship chemicals.

Stay far away from any place in Brooklyn.

Check B & H's price first. If the other company isn't in the same ballpark, beware of scam!

Then there's the USA vs grey market. For a lens, grey might be ok. I have 2 grey market lenses, and both have performed well for years. For anything else, I stick to the US version, especially a digital camera!

Good luck in finding your lens!

Hi,

I've dealt with Amazon.com, B&H Photo, and Samys Camera, all of which have been great. B&H and Samys prices are basically the same, and if one is lower than the other, you can call up one and say "you know, Samys/B&H's price is lower" and they'll probably give it to you for that price. Generally, Samys Camera packs its packages more carefully than B&H or Amazon, so if you are worried about shipping, Samys is good to buy from. If you live in New York State, you pay sales tax for Adorama and B&H. If you live in California, you pay sales tax from Samys.

For buying used equipment, I wouldn't do it online, but drive to a camera store where you can inspect and test the equipment.

adorama is an old company that has been around a long time. they should be reliable/safe/good etc. I bought stuff from them before there was an Internet.

can't say about usedcamerabuyer... i just dont know.

i have bought from www.bhphoto.com they are also a long standing company and reliable.

prices will be pretty much the same amongst the good ones. If you find a deal too good to be true: walk away.

Happy snapping!

I've purchased several things from adorama.com and bhphotovideo.com (both are very good and very trusted by many many photographers). Lately, though, I've been scanning the items at amazon.com, it seems that they usually have very good prices on the same stuff you can get at one of these photo shops.

I'm pretty sure this is the store where more stormchasers get their equipment than any other:

Good enough endorsement?
