My cat is on heat and I dont just want her having kittens from any neighbourhood cat. She's not pedigree, I just want a nice looking cat, preferably white haired (I've read that these have lower incidence of allergies)

YES BIRDGIRL, I am aware that it is the saliva (also any other bodily secretions), rather than the hair itself. However it is the opinion of some experts that cats with light coloured hair have lower levels of allergens in their saliva. There is no randomised controlled blinded trials to prove this of course but I believe that it is worth trying. Its like for example people with red hair have different response to anaesthetics than others - its not the red hair that does it - its just a phenotype that indicates a link with with another separate characteristic.

Check around for cat breeders in your area, or ask your friends if they have a male cat that isn't neutered. However, think carefully if you really want the responsibility of kittens. Cats can have between 6-9 kittens a litter. If you can't find homes for them and have to keep them, you won't be just dumping them out will you? I hope not. Good luck.

IF u r lookg in regards to answers on best breed 4 allergens, i am allergic 2 cats--BUT my mum breed himalayans as we discovered by goin 2 the breeders' that their 'dander' & saliva is not as concentrated due to being a 'hybrid'; (my cat JUST passed away unfortunately, but he was a himalayan 2 and my next cat wil b 2) they also have a great disposition and live very long--keeping a cat indoors adds 5 yrs to its life!! Make appointments and visit breeders and c what they would suggest for yr pet!!

Why on earth would you want to bring more pets into the world when there is already an huge overpopulation problem. Get your cat spayed, she will live a longer , healtier life. And, the color of a cats fur has NOTHING to do with allergies, people are allergic to the cat's saliva, NOT the fur itself. Once the cat licks itself, the saliva on the fur drys and becomes airborne causing the allergic reaction. Be a responsible owner and get your cat spayed.

please have her spayed because there are soOOOOOO many cats at the shelters who are dying because people are breeding non-pedigree cats. This will help educate you on why spaying/neutering is so important not only for the health benefits of your cat's life (mammary cancer, uterus cancer, etc), but stop overpopulation and euthanization of cats from people like yourself who don't realize this.
TOO MANY CATS DIE IN SHELTERS BECAUSE PEOPLE LET THEIR CATS HAVE KITTENS and you are displacing these cats even if you find homes for your own kittens the ones at the shelters have no chance then to find homes. Wouldn't that just break your heart if one of your cats someday ends up in the shelter for the same reason????

i know it is a wonderful experience to see your animal give birth and the joy you get from seeing the babies grow from day to day, but there are to many animals out there that are in shelters and on death row just because of our selfishness of wanting to experience this joyous occasion. think about it before you do this. i know they are so cute and cuddly, but what is going to happen to them when you realize you cant keep them all, and if you do are you going to pay for each and everyones shots and medical expenses to keep them happy and healthy for the rest of their lives. please, i urge you to reconsider this and get your animal fixed.

put an ad in the classifieds...maybe you should also look for potential buyers also so you don't get stuck with a bunch of kittens or have to drop them off at the SPCA
