The best way to judge breads is to look at the ingredient list. The first ingredient or two should be wheat/grains, nothing else. Stay away from anything that says refined or bleached.

I don't care WHAT those carb counting people say - calories are calories - and if you're paying attention to your diet - it's not that big of a deal.

Yes - whole grains are important to your diet - so throw in some brown rice - and oatmeal and such. If you really love white bread - and you're eating fruits, veggies, dairy, protein and whole grains - the white bread can just serve as your empty calories. They should be minimal (two slices a day) - but you won't feel so deprived. Deprivation is the main reason we fail at dieting.

EVERYTHING IN MODERATION - you know? No - it wouldn't be a huge deal. Go for it!

There is more to the matter than merely the number of carbohydrate, fat and protein grams. White bread has the "honour" of having very little in the way of nutrition (ie vitamins, minerals) which the process of refinement strips!
