OK! First of all let me say you need to get your female spayed as soon as she is no longer bleeding. Make an appointment now and follow through. Your pitbull is obviously not neutered so in this instance two snips are better than one. Get them both taken care of and this will never happen again. In the mean time you are in for a very long and frustrating 6 weeks. The dogs have to be kept seperated and the further apart the better. Don't let your female outside without staying with her or you will have puppies. Male dogs can smell a female in season for miles. Put your pitbull outside if possible and make certain the female doesn't interact with him or any other dog for the next 6 weeks. Good Luck!

Since you want to breed her later, spaying her would be a bad idea... But, unless you want to breed the pit bull as well, I would suggest that you get your pit bull neutered, and, if neither of these are an option for you, it would probably be a good idea to let your pit bull stay outside or just keep him away from the female... Hope this helps!

You need to get her away from the pit. Be sure they are in separate rooms or areas at all costs. It won't take long for that pit to make something happen and your daschund could get hurt. It might be a good idea to put the pit outside until the smaller dog gets thru the "heat".

get the pit bull fixed now..... still keep them apart exspecially with this heat. Turst me I was up at 3 am for the last to mornings. with a male crying, and I .think when this female goes out of heat there is another one going into heat right behinder. I had a male doggie wrap on him but he got it off. I also have flashy pants for the girls. I don't run a puppy mill the dogs sleep in my bed so it is hard. I have to put the ones in heat in my daughters room with her at night I know the crying, and I hear you.

She is probably miserable and he's not helping much... LOL
The best you can do is keep them seperated and just ride out the whining until the heat is over. Of course, she may go into heat again pretty soon thereafter... I would almost suggest that you send him to a friends house until the heat is over because your dealing with some pretty strong instincts right now and accidents do happen.

I think u r being dangerous. a few yrs. back an old lady had a small dog it went into heat, a shepard kept trying to breed her, it tore her into shreds 1 day. The vet said the dog did it out of fustration!

I would have him boarded at your local vet clinic or kennel until your doxie comes out of heat (about 10 days after she quits bleeding). It is the easiest way to keep them from breeding without spaying or neutering.

There is nothing you can do about the whining, that's a male crying for a piece, he'll keep whining until she's out of heat. Did she just start her heat cycle? She won't stand for him to do anything until about the second week, when the blood starts turning darker, is when you really need to watch-that means she'll be ready and will stand for him. Have you thought about putting a pair of shorts or a doggy diaper on her? This will help with the mess of blood in your house and he won't be able to get her if she is wearing something? We used to put shorts on our lab, cause she bled something awful. She didn't mind it! Would give you alittle piece of mind. Otherwise, kennel one of them if you can't always keep an eye on them. She'll whine to until she's out of heat, you know women and their heat cycles-hate um!!!

If you plan to breed her one day, get a doggie diaper and spray the outside of it with the bitter apple spray to deter the pit. If your pit is like mine and like the spray use wintergreen alcohol on the outside of the diaper. It won't hurt either of them and it should deter the pit.
