The origins of the doctrine of the rapture are hotly debated. Pre-trib rapture is a theory and you are right it is not really well supported by scripture. However, you will find support for it crosses the denominations, though thankfully it is in the minority.

They're independent. They don't have a denominational affiliation. They are not Dispensational, which is the belief in that which you mentioned.

i know Jehovah's Witnesses don't, and i don't think Catholics do.
