I'm part(if you can call it that) of a club at my college that has a big 8 day walk planned from one city in my province to another,in protest and to raise awarness of the genocide that is currently occuring in Darfur,BUT the group leader decided to just sign himself and his friends up for the walk, and then told the rest of us that the walk was full, but that we can help by putting up posters.WE are ALL pissed because we are members of the club, but He and his FRIENDS get to do this?I asked him about this and he said they couldn't have more than 20 pppl walking, but there are less than 20 people in the club! His friends were never in the club, but now they are suddenly the planners, and even though we are supposed to have first dibs we didn't.I want to call a meeting just to ***** him and his friends out!But I know they would say what matters is that the genocide is getting attention so what could I say to that not to sound shallow?I mean why don't they just put up posters if its so great?

In this club it seems like the members are only used like groupies to put up poster for events we are never actually INVOLVED in anything, like planning wise or whatever. I'm tired of this, becuase I could be more involve in this club if I was just a firiend, of a friend, of a friend, of the group leader. We have all said we want to be more involved but all I have ever done is put up posters! We even have an international week..and again...I'm just a poster girl. We don't even get told when planning meetings are happening. I have never heard of anybody being in a club only to put up posters while the leader and his friends get to do all the life enchancing direct volunteer work. I'm just tired of feeling USED! What do i say to them when I express my concerns and they call me shallow for not just being happy to put up posters for them? I mean there are people part of the walk that aren't even STUDENTS of the college!

I would do the posters and then get my butt out there and walk in front of them with the rest of the group he's excluding.

Don't let this bully tell you what you can and can't do for a cause you believe in.

If he doesn't like it - start your own group with the people he excludes and sign up triple the members!

I don't think you can say anything at this point. However, when it comes time to elect a new group leader? Boot him!!

The fact is, the point of the protest is more important than any squabble that might be going on over the protest itself. There's no way you can handle this except to graciously thank him for bringing the protest to your attention, and then maybe signing up another group of walkers?? I've never heard of a "walk" for a cause that limited the number of walkers... that's a little absurd.

They are afraid of the girls power to get things done. Here's' the real deal. The men are snobs, immature and apparently do not have enough self-confidence to be able to include others, who may get some really deserved praise for a job well done. It is fear on their part.

You are wasting your time, truly. They will not change. They are the ones who are 'shallow'. You are worth MORE than just playing second fiddle to their whims.

Get a Life. Get out of that club. It may be an 'elite' group, but they are being inconsiderate, and they will never realize it. Your self respect is more important than their petty games.

Put up the posters. Go along with it BUT can they really stop you from walking on your own. You want to show your support right? How about every single step of the way.

Also, talk to the others in the club, call a meeting and tell him that you want to do more than put up posters, that you want to walk and that it wasn't right for him to sign up his friends who aren't even in this club. It wasn't right, and it's not shallow of you, you just want to do more. I think it's great you want ot do this in the first place.

Sorry this happened. Is it possible for you and other members of the club to form another team for the event? In future, you could also start another club and organize other activities that are important to you through that club. Or use the power of the vote and elect a different president next year.

he is being derilict in his duties as the club leader and deserves to be removed if he'll take his friends who were never members and ditch the people who have been part of the movement from the beginning. do you have impeachment in canada b/c i would vote his lame *** out of club leadership if i were you and honestly i don't think that is shallow at all since he has proven to not be an effective leader.

Put up the posters AND show up for the walk anyway, they can't really stop you!
EDIT: How can they call you shallow? The fact that you want to participate more actively shows the exact opposite!

Vote him out of the club? And why can't you walk any way? If that's the whole point of the walk, isn't? To have as many people doing it as possible?

I'd show up and walk away? What are they going to do? Tell you you can't help raise awarness?!
