Martial arts are not limited to the asian cultures. Ever since men have fought there have been martial arts. Martial=war, the root word is Mars: the God of war. So any art of war or fighting is a martial art, this includes boxing, wrestling, marksmanship, archery, and a whole host of other non-traditional martial arts.

Boxing is a sport and it is now called a Martial Art. I don't think it should be qualified as a Martial Art though.
