Cross country is one of my fondest memories from high school. Yeah they run alot, but you never realize what you're capable of until you try it, and three miles every day is nothing. Towards the end of the season my freshman year (i was lucky enough to make varsity) the smallest distance we would do was a five mile run, usually at at least a 6-7minute pace. Even if you don't like it, it's been my experience that some of the best and brightest people tend to be runners. I'm not knocking other sports, but running distance definitely takes a certain strength of character to do. You have ot be some one who can take the punishment of a 5-10 mile run and be like "dang... look what I just did... time for my cool down" It's definitely something that grows on you, so why not give it a try?
PS- Soccer players who switch to XC tend to be pretty awesome at it.

i ran cross country for 2 years in high school and loved it. Lots of hill running, some speed work but mostly endurance running LSD - Long Slow Distance with a bit of speed work. And lots of hill climbs, if you live in a hilly area.
But the fun is not only how you train for cross country, but visiting other schools and running their courses. Some are in parks, some on school grounds, some through forests but all different and all a challenge. Pacific High School in San Bernadino, California, was in our league and had a killer hill, I mean, a 300 meter slope that was a gas! On the backside, you ran down some switchbacks, over another hill then a 200 meter dash across the athletic field to the finish.
By all means do it. You will be in great shape and have a great time.

I ran cross-country for four years in high school. I made some of my best friends through the team, and I was also in the best shape of my life then.
I would encourage you to join the team. If you have a good coach, you will learn a great deal not only about running, but also about yourself and life in general. I would recommend training once the weather is suitable. Start out with shorter distances (around one mile, three times a week) and build up from there. Eventually, you will be able to run every day with ease.

I have ran in a couple of cross-country events.
I found them to be both invigorating and compelling.
if you can get in a team or in with some friends you will race and experience running in the country and getting muddy sweaty in an environment that you might not otherwise see in the circumstances.
on the Physical side cross country is excellent cardiovascular training and is great for improving your VO2 MAX endurance and basically will complement the Soccer that you play. in short.
don't be shy do it!

i guess it would b fun if you like speed and competetion..
if you play foward or midfield even,, you have to run alot in a game if your in the whole game.. probably at the least .5 mile a game.. im just guessing but could b up to 1+ mile or so.. so why not,, but if your a defender or goalie.. and you still have good enderence,, why not.. you can always quit cross country the nxt year... and go back to soccer again 100%..
as long as you can run that much.. 3miles, 5miles,, half marathons and maybe full marathons and such,, you should.. im sure it will b fun
ps. im sure you will meet new friends -- ** 99 % sure **

By all means, try it. You could try running distance events in track this spring to get some sort of feel for it (and meet people on the XC team).
Soccer players have turned out to be fabulous XC runners. Two of the girls' individual state XC champions in Minnesota in the past few years have been soccer players who decided to do XC in the fall their senior year. The girl who won this year's state XC championship was one of them, and she went on to place 6th in the Foot Locker National Championships.
Just go out and put your best foot forward (horrible pun fully intended). :-)

Its a great sport. I ran in HS and it was the best part of my HS life.
3 miles sounds like a lot if you haven't done it, but its not that much after you've been out for the sport just a little while.
Go for it! Good luck!
