the financial aid office at your school determines your eligibility. they are also responsible for providing documents and information that helps explains the type of aid you're eligible for, what you do next (including how to get the aid!).

it's possible your school will assume you'll be a fullt-time student (at least 12 credits if you're an undergraduate student), so if that's not what you're planning on, contact them and let them know.

by the way, the FAFSA is just an application. it's all part of the department of education (part of the government) - it's that department that determines eligibility standards for financial aid offices to use :)

try to aim for grants/scholarships more... they are not to be paid back.

big (and small) companies, orgs, corps and groups all have grants and scholarships they hand out like candy.

heres a link. some you will need to copy and paste into a new window. also, fastweb (take the time to fill it in) will search databases and get back to you with a list of scholarships you qualify for.

OVER apply; it doesnt hurt to have too many, and the extra funds can help with housing.

your school will issue the check to you. you probably need to attend a fafsa/financial aid orientation prior. call your school's fin. ad dept and ask them what the next step is.

the fafsa people are the ones who determine how much money you get, based on your income, and how many units you are enrolled in.
