Yes Jesus did promote peace but "Jesus did not come to bring the kind of peace that glosses over deep differences just for the sake of superficial harmony". It is important to understand that Jesus want us stand up for what is right even if that means that conflicts occur. In the end peace will reign for all saved souls.

I now see that You answered Your own question. He has come to get Everybody to slash their Family & Friends to shreds with a sword. Fathers will kill Their Children. Brothers will kill Their Brothers. Everybody will hate Everybody, because of Jesus and His Slashing to the Shreds of His Sword. No One shall escape. When Jesus & His disciples get done killing Everybody, the Earth will be covered with BLOOD! After Everyone is Dead, only then can there be PEACE.

Read the next 3 verses. (10:35, 36, 37) The sword was metaphoric and was symbolic of cutting our selves free of the ties that bind us to earthly things like family and relationships.

his sword is his heart to heal others. it cuts thru evil and promotes his will.he was trying to say, ignore and pray for evil ones (the sword is strength in the spirit during those times) and trust me. people thought he came to send peace but they did not understand how he and the father went about it. we will only know when we get to heaven. they are more righteous and way way way above our thoughts and comprehension. all i know is whatever he did, he did thru the father who has more knowledge than we will ever have, and we are not to judge just to live by the trilogy

Jesus is peace to his people, and those that love him. To those that hate him, by their works, the sword shall come. It is all written.

You can only really answer that question with a quetion...Did he bring peace? Many claim that he brings personal peace. But many more have died, including Jesus, in his name. Who knows. Maybe we will only know when we get to the other side.

You should have read a little further and maybe understand what Jesus is really talking about. What Jesus is saying is that he is in a war against evil. But I suspect that who ever taught you that is not very knowledgeable in the words of the bible...................

No, the central paradigm of Christianity is that some one has to die before things get better. We have been following God's lead ever since.
