You risk pushing earwax (cerumen) farther down the ear canal, impacting it, which will need to be removed by a specialist. This can be quite painful, because impacted cerumen can rub abrasively against sensitive nerve endings in the ear canal.
You also risk perforating the tympanic membrane (eardrum). A perfortion can cause hearing loss, damage to middle ear structures, and can allow bacteria to enter the middle ear, causing frequent infections, which can lead to additional loss of hearing and damage to the middle ear.

The reason that you should never stick anything in your ear, is that you have a very thin layer of skin that acts as a guard for your eardrum that can very easily be ripped if something is pushed against it.
