there are several ways you can treat this problem depending on the level of comfort (or rather uncomfort:) ) that you have.

If you want to do it through medical treatements there are number of beta blockers. They are usually used by people with performance anxiety. It does take the edge off the stress but in my personal experience you feel like a piece of dead wood. Although you probably can experiment wwith the doze:

There are also several ways to come yourself down psychologically:
1) For some people it helps to have a certain routine before they have to go in front of the audience.
2) For some people it helps going outside, breathing deeply and think about something pleasant and relaxing like waterfalls or wind moving through the tree tops (whatever rocks your boat:) )
3) Some people try to distract themselves from the upcoming event so they do not have time to work up the stress so hanging out with your friends or family backstage telling jokes or playing card games helps some people.

Well, I had the same problem when I started performing and the best cure I think is performing in front of a huge audience with a lot of people on the stage with you. That way not all of the attention is on you, and you have no idea who these people are and then slowly go down to a smaller audience. A smaller audience is harder to perform to because you can like see who these people are and you can see their reaction you do whatever you do.
