I just read yet another news story of a mother deliberately killing her young children. She threw them into the San Fransico Bay and let them drown. That stupid Frak!!! She was supposedly in a mental institution several times for a year straight and even Her mother warned social workers that the kids were in danger. WHERE THE HELL ARE THE PEOPLE WHO ARE SUPPOSED TO PROTECT CHILDREN? WHAT THE HELL WERE THEY DOING? WHY DID THEY LET THIS WOMAN KEEP HER CHILDREN!!!! WHY DIDN'T ANYONE WALKING BY STOP HER????? I am trying so hard to stop the tears, this is just terrible, is there any good left in this world, is there any hope? I look at my own 17 month old beautiful baby girl and pray that the world will be a little better of a place when she's old enough to understand what heart ache is.

So far most of these answers are really good, thank you. Crap like this makes me want to buy my own island and live there for the rest of my life with my family and freinds. :)

I have no clue...I live in the Bay Area and live about 30-40 minutes from where this happened. Very sad story and she should not have been allowed to have children in the first place. It's been on the news quite often here because it's considered local news...In terms of people walking by and stopping her, there aren't many people that walk by where she was and I thought that she drove off the pier in her car? In terms of CPS stepping in....I'm not sure why this wasn't caught earlier either....such a sad story.
I have a 19 month little girl too and I just hope that things will be better when she gets older....it's scary out there...

You are right. Seems like Children's Protective Services never do their job. I mean this woman was in a mental facility. She shouldn't have been allowed to be alone with her children. The social workers were probably hassling a single working mom who had an obvious false call placed on her. This happens all the time.
I am so angry and feel your frustration. Those poor beautiful children. I just know with such a caring, loving mother, your daughter will grow up smart and strong --and change the world for the better.
Blessings

I think the social worker should be brought up on charges. Who knows someone better than a person's own mother? The woman's mother clearly knew of the impending danger and the stupid social worker failed to take it to heart. If she'd at least investigated, she may've seen the woman was struggling at that given time. I say they should start holding these authorities accountable, if they do not do their jobs right.
On a personal note, I know it hurts to see and hear about this kind of stuff. But it does exist and unfortunately, so does mental illness. Amidst your tears, say some prayers for those that are still in danger..... Ghandi says to be the change that you want to see in the world. How does that apply in a situation like this? I'm not sure.... But I do know that If I'd seen this woman, I wouldn't have been able to go about my regular business with out sticking my nose into hers first..... Wish I'd been there to stop her.
Take care & God bless you for caring so much.

No one can really explain why it happened except that our systems for child welfare and mental health need work/more funding. I have a friend who works for child services in Oregon, and her caseload is too big and unmanageable. They are understaffed and many of the people they hire are unqualified because they are cheaper to pay. Also, why was this mentally ill woman living on her own with children? She obviously did not have proper access to the mental health services and medication that she needed. The world does still have good- people like you who care enough to question what is happening can make a difference. Hang in there.

I don't know what is going on with this world. Here in Maryland, there was a mom (and boyfriend) that killed her four month old twin girls. Social Services was supposed to be making visits to check on them but they didn't. The twins had been living in a home that had no electricity and at the time of their death they weighed less than they did at birth.

sadly there are always some that slip through the cracks. If you get your island let me know we would like it there too. In Australia last week a mum came home to find her husband had killed the kids and then himself with a shotgun. They were 1 and 6. Life sucks a lot at times

The sad thing is is there aren't enough social service workers to for all the mentally unstable in the world. Plus, burn out takes many. People need to report and keep reporting suspected abuse cases and people in need until something gets done. All calls are are confidential. Be a proactive person and help those who can't help themselves. Report!

That is a really sad story. As far as social services is concerned...I'm sure they would have stepped in if there were definite signs that she would harm her children. Its sad that those children died, and its really sad that if their mother had proper mental health treatment this may not have happened. You can't blame social services though...yes they have to protect children, but most states push for parents and children to be reunited not disconnected. I'm sure the ball was dropped somewhere, but social services is not totally to blame.

You and I will never know why people do things like this. It obviously requires a break from reality that we cannot relate to. I feel very sad for this woman and her family. She is obviously very very sick to have done such a horrible thing to her own children.
There is a lot of evil out there. That's why I believe it's so very important I instill some type of morality and consistant church presance in my children's lives. I want them to know they are held accountable in more ways than one...and there are consequences for their actions.

It seems like there are only a handful of good people left in the world now. People only care for themselves and will do anything and everything to get ahead of everyone else. Everyone has turned into self-centered power-hungry monsters. That's why I like animals better. If I could, I'd lock myself up in my room with my pets and never-ever-ever-EVER come out again.
