It means that there has been some damage to the spinal cord that will result in reduced or complete loss of function from a certain point down. Paraplegia means that the legs will be affected by this. Some people, depending on the level of the injury, may have very, very limited function of their legs, but usually not enough to support normal walking. I am sorry to hear about your friend. He/she is going to need lots of support to deal with this life change. Please just know that people who are paraplegic can still lead very full, happy, productive lives with wheelchairs, but it will take some adjustments and alot of physical therapy and physical rehab. Paraplegia is permanent paralysis of the body caused by injury or disease affecting the spinal cord.
Paraplegia involves a loss of sensation and movement in the legs and in part or all of the trunk. This varies according to the level of the injury. Generally, the lower the injury, the less the loss of movement and sensation. Paraplegia usually results from an injury to the spinal cord in the mid and lower back.
Sorry to hear about your friend. They will most likely loose all movement and feeling below the waist, but that depends on the extent of the injury. Most paraplegics are wheelchair bound. They are going to need a lot of help as well as emotional support.

I believe it means Paralyzed. That they won't be able to use their legs, or arms in some cases. It means they will be in a wheelchair. Sorry about your friend.

it means you cant move anything below your waist . sorry. if you are quadrapledgic then you cant move anything from your arms down
