To lose 1lb a week you need a to cut back a calorie balance of 500 calories per day.

For every hundred pounds that you weigh, you should only be consuming 1000 calories per day. So if you are 300 lbs and you're consuming 3000 calories per day, than you will maintain your weight. Just some food for thought.
