I always leave someothing special for him when I leave the house...treats that he has to search for....toys hidden behind pillows.. This way, he's distracted when I leave and also gets a reward for my going.

I've also been told to play a game with him....leave the house for 3 minutes and then return with love and praise. Then leave for 30 minutes. Again,, return with love and praise. Keep doing this, and he'll be assured that you're coming back.

Most definitely!!!!!!!!! One of my friends had a female dog that would pee and poop on the sofa whenever left alone for more than one hour. I have a poodle that I started to leave alone for just a few minutes at a time. Now I can leave it for longer periods and before I leave I tell him to stay and that I will be back. Every time I get home he comes down from our upstairs bedroom and jumps in my arms before I even have time to take my coat off. Weather I leave for 4 minutes or 4 hours it is always the same. My girlfriend has a shiatsu and she has special treats and a treat ball she gives her dog when she leaves. I really think that they all have a separation anxiety. Some more than others; My poodle follows me from one room to the other; to the other, etc. I should have called him Shadow. He can be sound asleep on the other end of the sofa, but as soon as I get up to go to the kitchen; he is always by my side. Hope this helps, and good luck with your pet.

Ofcourse like us people if we been left alone we can feel separation to others so you us owner of a dog try to communicate to them or even play every afternoon if you are free in anything,.... be more curios to them and sometimes talk to them as time past they can understand you and will not feel separation to you.....

Yes. Animals are incredibly smart. They know when their "owner" is away from home and have a clue when they might be back.

When I leave just to grab something from my car my dog barks right after I leave and starts to whine (from what people tell me). I come back and she's all over me, jumping on me and kissing me. So yeah she knows.

Some dogs have separation anxiety.

Yep, even some of them have separation anxiety. I usually only leave my pups for 4-5 hours a day and leave them with something to amuse themselves.

yes, when i get home my dog cries and jumps all over me. while you're gone you could leave your dog with an old sock, or shirt with your scent on it.
