Uh, I guess you mean a thermometer. Meters measure things and thermometers measure temperature.

The thermometer you know.

Bi metallic strip : works on the principle that when dissimilar metals are fused they produce a current at certain temperature ranges.

Disappearing filament : For high temperature the light and co lour emitted is proportional to the temperature. Pass a current though a wire with the heat source behind and when the wire gets the same colour as the heat source then you know the current and thus the temperature.....takes a lot of calibrating.

Always the 'burning finger'. You stick your finger in and if it hurts then its hot. Temperature measured on the 'expletive' scale.
