It isnt that simple. In German, you often say 'Guten Tag' as a greeting like Hello. You could also say 'Grüs Gott', or maybe other things. For Goodbye, 'Auf Wiedersehen' could be used.
In Italian, you might say 'Bon Giorno' (same translation) as Good Day. 'Ciao' is often used for 'Goodbye'.
Hello is not always used as an English speaker would apply it.
