Realistically, there will likely never be a draft in the United States again. An all-volunteer military works better. The soldiers are better trained to work with the equipment, and equipment is a major part of modern-day warfare. (We have really cool equipment -- including pilotless planes and lasers strong enough to disable vehicles.)

Legally (as it stands today), if congress did decide to reinstate the draft, it would apply only to people registered with the selective service. The selective service registration is NOT mandatory for anyone. However, men ages 18-35 are penalized for not applying if they would like a chance at federal aid (for college) or a federal job.

there'll be no draft. The draft is an staggering way for commercial- and pre-commercial-age armies to guy up. that is a thoroughly cruddy way for an ideas-age military to guy up. to start up, a draft might want to quite in many cases %. up ineffective human beings - in common words one individual in 4 presently can meet the criteria, so your putative draft wold be tossing out 3 of each 4 human beings chosen. it truly is stupid. and expensive. 2d, the protection stress is determined as a lot as prepare and tutor volunteers, human beings whom *chosen* to be there, no longer green with envy compelled-draftees. that that they had ought to totally remodel the colleges structures, and that takes a decade or more effective, and expenses a surprising sum of money. IOW, that is a stupid concern to do. third, the protection stress is already assembly its retention and recruitment aims. convinced, there are some months they bypass over purpose, yet there also are months they EXCEED purpose - all of it evens out interior the top. So why scrap what works? that is stupid. So why might want to the protection stress use *very last* century's manpower approaches to fulfill *this* century's desires? IOW: A draft might want to be stupid. Which why there's no, and could be no, draft. to that end endeth the lesson.

Right now, females are exempted from the American Selective Service registration. The law, drafted in the 1970's, didn't envision that women would be used in combat units.

And, there won't be a draft unless the USA's very existence is threatened (last step before nukes).

Both men and women should be drafted accordingly. If they pass a mental and physical exam ,draft them. The age should be 21 since this is the age Americans think we're old enough to consume alcohol.

No, females are not required to register for a draft. Also, a draft is NOT going to happen so don't worry. But males would, in theory, be drafted from the age of 18.

For those of you that think there will not be a draft. Beware. In the event that a war would erupt with China, the draft would be reinstated. It would probably also be stretched to take men up to 35-40 years for support roles. Women would still remain volunteer. This is not a made up scenerio, but a realistic one warned to me by a rather educated lady.

Yeah both men and women will be drafted, i think either 18 or 21. So you and you're brother should be fine if we get out of Iraq within the next four years.

As of right now, no, you wouldn't be as women aren't eligible, but that could change. Depending on if they re-write the draft rules which is always a possibility. Your brother would be eligible to be drafted on his 18th birthday. Google Selective Service and go to their site to learn more how a draft would work.

Just do not vote for to many democrats and you will never have to face the draft. They are the only ones calling for the draft at this time.
