I've recently aquired a fear of getting fat(ter) since last week. I'm 13, 5'3, and 124 pounds. I'd like to be 105. Is that a healthy weight? Also, will eating diet bars help me? They taste really good! Can I substitute a lunch and have a diet bar instead? Can I lose 20 pounds before summer?

Diet bars can make you fat too, if you eat too many of them. If you eat only a diet bar for lunch, you might get hungry and overeat later.

You're only 13, you shouldn't obsess over your weight. Just try not to overeat and make sure to get some daily physical activity and you should be fine.

No. I hate to pull the age card on you, but dieting on your own before the age of 18 is just unsafe. You can do some serious damage to your metabolism.
If you're serious about losing weight--because "dieting" doesn't work, you need to actually make a lifelong committment to adjusting your lifestyle, start off by: exercising at least 5 times a week for at least 30 minutes (this can be a jog, a run, a swim, aerobics, dancing, anything that gets you moving! Join a team sport or club and you can probably fulfill this), and eat healthy by making "exchanges". For example, for breakfast eat some oatmeal (without syrup) instead of a pop tart or donut. Have an apple for a snack instead of chips, ask for grilled chicken instead of fried chicken, etc.
VERY IMPORTANTLY, tell your general physician about your interest in losing weight. He/she will tell you how to SAFELY so you don't end up being one of those people who are constantly on some crazy diet and never seem to lose weight (also known as 90% of the USA).
Diet bars do not work, because they do a poor job of making you feel full and they are targeted to people who are older. You cannot live off of them--remember, it's not JUST about LOSING weight, it's also about KEEPING the weight off. You don't want to live the rest of your life eating diet bars, do you?
As for losing 20 lbs by summer, it is possible because you have about 5 months, and losing 1 or two pounds a week is the healthiest way that won't make your metabolism freak out on you. However, that information is for adults, not young teens, so remember, *ask your doctor*! I see so many girls dieting all wrong at young ages who end up gaining weight because they don't do it correctly.

Eating a diet bar to replace a meal isn't going to hurt you if it is something you do occasionally, but you need to eat HEALTHY to be healthy. For your height you are not overweight. If you'd like to look and feel better you probably should look into exercising daily (taking a brisk walk, ride an exercise bike, do some sort of aerobic work out). You probably will look better by exercising than by dieting by summer.
