I want to enlist in the Marines as a Machine Gunner (Ive talked to a recruiter, taken the ASVAB, and can pass the Initial Strength Test easy), so theres no problem for enlisting.

But I want to start getting an associates degree WHILE Im in the Corps; what is something fairly easy to get on base or online? I know thats kind of broad but help me out here. I would want to get an associates degree in Criminal Justice or something hands on, your not necessarily doing paper work day after day after day. Any hints?

Why don't you try to get in a career for legal or military police. A back ground in those 2 areas would be very helpful. also the Marine corps values education very highly. in your off time you can go to college, there are some classes offered on base or take classes out in town. the marine corps will also pay for 80% of your cost for class ( i think that is the correct %) if deployed over seas to Okinawa you can take on line classes with university of phoenix there's a couple of others too. A machine gunner will not be the best job for education but if that is what you are looking for now by all means go for it. A lot of Marines are able to get their AA while they are in the Marine Corps and once they get out they continue to go for their BA or masters. Good luck in what ever you do and Semper FI!

Well you realize that going into the marines, especially as the MOS your are talking about you probably will have very little time if any intially to take any form of college, then once you do who knows where you would be stationed, the best advice i can give is wait till you get there then look up what colleges are were or start asking questions within your chain of command. Or you ESO, for a lot more info on where and when you could do.

If you seriously want to go to college while you are in the Marines pick another MOS. If you are a grunt you won't have time for school...period. Don't listen to the bs the recruiter will fill you with. Remember its his job to get people like you to join. There are plenty of other great jobs in the Corps and with the way things are going right now you will most likely go to Iraq no matter what your job is.

Nope not hard at all. Highly encouraged as a matter of fact.
But with Tuition Assistance picking up about 90% of the bill, why not go for a Bachelor's?

Senior severe college is the very similar ingredient as severe college, only a distinct call. Like in my city we've Austin Senior severe (severe college) and Austin junior severe (middle college).

Talk to our recruiter about this. That is what he is there for. I know that there is always Distance Learning available to Military. Good luck.
