I think it's a good idea as long as the student can maintain their grades. As long as it's only part time. It would give them some extra spending money that they won't have to explain to their parents about what they need it for.

There are many pros and cons to taking a job as a student. Jobs require students to become independent and take an initative while at the same time keeping pace with the demands of school work. Many employers will work with students, but you will find that some will say they do in an effort to hire you only for their personal gain.

A job as a student requires a lot of the student. If you are already struggling as a student, can you keep your grades up and work at the same time? If you are a good student, a job could help as you are applying for college. It shows that you can handle the added stresses.
