Choosing effective acne treatments from amongst the plethora of products available today can be a daunting task, and while many skincare specialists advocate the use of gentle products, it can be difficult to find a natural facial cleanser that will effectively cleanse your skin, while attacking the causes of your acne. This is why many people are choosing to make their own natural face cleaner from products in their own kitchen. And these can make effective acne treatments.

It can be difficult to make sense of the complicated sounding ingredients listed on the side of manufactured products, but many of the active properties of these cleansers are introduced by the addition of some of nature's simplest ingredients. You can recreate your very own effective acne treatments by putting these together in your own natural facial cleaner, making a product that can effectively treat your acne in a natural and gentle way.

A wide variety of natural products can act as effective natural facial cleaners that can be applied to the skin and rinsed away with warm water. The natural astringency of lime juice makes it an excellent base in effective acne treatments - mixed with boiled milk, it makes an effective and soothing facial wash. Mix lime juice with equal amounts of groundnut oil to use as a pre-wash: apply to the skin and leave for ten to fifteen minutes before washing. Mix with rose water and leave on the skin for about twenty minutes, and see how refreshed your skin looks and feels when you rinse with warm water.

Rose water can also be mixed with sandalwood to create an effective acne treatment - simply apply to the face and rinse with water after twenty minutes. Ground orange peel and water can be made into a paste and used in the same way. Natural facial cleaners can even be produced by mixing such strange ingredients as turmeric powder and mint juice; just rinse with water after twenty minutes to see the difference.

As with all new facial products that you use, it is always wise to test a patch of your skin for any potential adverse reactions before applying to your whole face. Rub a small amount of your selected mixture just behind your ear, rinse, and wait twenty-four hours. If you experience any redness or itchy patches, then one of the ingredients might not be right for you.

But don't be disheartened - just try the next mixture. It could be one of the effective acne treatments you've been looking for.

You can often be surprised, but you can sometimes make your own effective acne treatments.

I had awful acne for years. When my daughter also developed it we tried the usual antibiotics which worked for a short time, then it would return. She went on Accutane for almost a year on a LOW dose, we carefully followed all the instructions and apart from some nose bleeds there were no side effects. The acne went away and has never returned(several years). I wish it had been around when I was young.Cost of the pills was under $100 per month - this is in Canada. Monthly visit to doc(which is free here but can't cost that much even in USA) and blood test. I did not know it was available 20 years ago but am surprised that your mother is not more sympathetic. Why don't you just ask at a pharmacy how much they are? There are different strengths.

Accutain is pretty heavy artillery and yes, it workd very well. It really should be a last resort type medication especially if you're a teen. If you have a tendency or family history of depression, you should really watch for signs of depression while on accutain, because in the last few years there has been a proven correlation between a slight increase of teen suicide and accutain use. This has been confirmed with other double blind studies which reached the same conclusion. So not a big worry, but just something to be aware of and keep in mind.
If you're of child bearing age, Accutain is not conducive to a healthy pregnancy as it's been proven to cause birth defects in the fetus of women taking it. This risk does subside once you're off the medicine for 18 months leaving no trace of any future problems with pregnancy and fetal development, but when on Accutane, you DON'T want to get pregnant.
All that said, it's a safe drug and like any other medication you must keep an eye for any major changes in your body once you're on it, but it tends to be tolerated pretty well by most people.
Good luck to you.

Right now my skin is perfectly clear, for the first time in 3 years. It's been about 9 weeks and all my acne is gone. It is such a great feeling to wake up with clear skin.

Accutane does work. Its the strongest acne medication out there. But, its not for everybody. Your doctor better know what he's doing.
My fiancee went through his teens with terrible acne. Boils, almost, and his parents wouldn't pay for the accutane. He got to his mid 20's and his acne didn't quit - it spread to his back as well. His acne on his back was so bad there were some times that he couldn't lean back in a chair. Its THOSE cases that should be prescribed accutane. Only the most severe. And it worked for him. His back is clear of boils (only scarring left) and he rarely gets pimples on his face now. But it did dry out the rest of his body, he was always slathering himself if my body lotion. :)
If you are not as serious as this, I wouldn't do it. I would go with Proactive. It takes 3 months to really work into your system, but it kicks butt. :)

Yes it works. I hope you are going to a good dermatologist that will help you with the side effects.
The most important thing is that Accutane makes it impossible for you to get sunlight. Your skin is susceptible to burns. Stay out of the sun without sunblock. Drink plenty of water, and eat natural food loaded with natural vitamins that are good for your skin. Beta-carotene, the stuff that makes carrots orange, is good for you and will help your skin keep the color it has naturally. Don't tan -ever, while taking accutane or after.

it's Accutane, and yes it's suppose to work very well. However it is reserved for worst cases of acne and only perscribed by your doctor. He needs to monitor you carefully as there are many many nasty side-effects associated with it.

Accutain is pretty heavy duty stuff, and should only be used as a last resort. I stumbled upon a much healthier and effective treatment that I wrote about on my blog. You may want to check it out before you use Accutain.

it works, definitely, but with side effects.

it works by basically stopping the "oil-making pores" in your face. this oil is what gives you acne.

it also dries out your face, and your lips, and is tough in winter if you are in a cold climate.

it can take a while , sometimes weeks, but definitely works.
