My puppy smelled really bad and this was like 2 days after we got her. So i got some puppy shampoo,by the way she is a girl. She got spayed so i was afraid to give her a bath, but i had no choice she smelled like poop so what i did was put her in the tube and i just washed her back and her paws and legs. ( there was little water in the tube ) I didn't wash her face nor did i touch her stomach do you think she is going to be ok? Because i did not want to infect it.

ps. I really love my puppy her name is Saddie Bear i love her so much i give her lots of love.

Saddie Bear should be fine. I would suggest next time so she doesn't get a cold or get water on her stitches, going to the pet store and buying some pet bath wipes or just using a damp wash cloth. Puppies can get into the darndest things and cuddling is no fun with a stinky puppy so I completely understand your need for washing her. Just make sure that you keep her warm after a bath and keep the water out of her eyes and ears.

Enjoy your new baby!

If she was recently spayed, is it possible that Sadie Bear has an infection in her spay incision? Check it to see if it looks really red around the edges, and possibly does the incision area smell?

The anal glands are a very good suggestion. She would likely do the butt-scootin' boogie (drag her bottom on the floor) if her anal glands are impacted. If she does this, she should be seen at the vet.

Another possibility would be her breath. Is it her breath that smells icky? If it is, take her back to the vet for a de-worming. Don't de-worm your puppy at home, because the de-worming medicines available are not all safe to give to various sized dogs, and you have to know what parasite you are trying to kill (so you'd have to know to pick the correct medicine). It is much better to have your vet do the de-worming.

While you are talking to your vet about de-worming, ask about heart worm medicine. If your little friend is kept heathy and free of parasites, she will be more active and make better use of the good food that you feed her.

If you gave your girl a bath and it got rid of the smell, then that should be fine. The stitch area won't be germ-free no matter what, but you are smart to be as careful with it as possible.

In the end, if you have any questions at all, you should call your vet. Most vets will answer questions over the phone, especially about animals they recently saw for an examination or procedure such as your puppy had.

Enjoy your little friend!

There should be no problem. That was a good thing to do. The cleaner she is on the outside the better. If you want to clean her more petsmart or petco sells small puppy wipes so you can do a dry bath until you will be able to wash her again. Don't worry though. If any redness or swelling occurs imediantly take her to the vet. But to me she sounds like shes fine.

It will be ok if you didn't get any of the dirty water on the wound. If you did, clean it immediately, and watch it. Keep it as clean as possible. If it starts to get unusually red around the wound, call your vet and describe the way it looks. It could be an infection. But don't freak out if it gets the slightest bit red, if it doesn't start to swell up and bleed and look like someones bloody nose, then don't worry. Good luck with your new puppy. :)

You are so sweet for loving your puppy like you do.I love mine SOoooo much too, so I know what you mean.

She should be OK, if she starts acting sluggish and sleeps too much call your Vet. An infection can be really bad and life threatening.

Good Luck and keep loving your sweet puppy!

He probably released his anal glands(It can sometimes happen during stressful situations)-anal glands are scent glands that hold a liquid secretion that often have a fishy smell to them. Edit: BTW use an ear wash cleaner-it cuts the smell of the scent.

I don't know what breed you have, but some dogs have to have their anal sacks expressed periodically. A Vet can do it, and show you how if you want to do it yourself. It is kind of yucky, but it is necessary and gets rid of the smell.

She'll be fine. Doggies are much more resilient than we think. I'm sure she'll be okay. if the surgery starts look REAL red or starts to ooze, call the vet.
