ISO is somewhat similar to a zip file. It compresses data so that it is easily transferrable. In order to utilize the ISO, you can use several programs. Most ISO are "zipped" up CD and/or DVD's. If you have EZ CD Creator or Nero, you can use this software to open the ISO and burn it to either CD or DVD. Otherwise, there is a program called WinISO that you can use to open the ISO file and view and extract the contents. You can download a trial version of WinISO from www.download.com

An iso is an image file of a particular disk

You can use a variety of programs to burn it to a disk but you need to know what the iso image you have is of. Some iso are DVD some are CD and some are simple audio CDs.

yes you need to burn it to a DVD or CD, but you can't just any normal program. you need to use a special ISO burner, like Alcohol 120%, Nero, or similar programs. If you burn it as a file, it will not function normally.

You extract the files from an iso.

It works similar to winzip or winrar, except it reads the file differently.
