Take a stick with phosphorus and sulfur ( I believe they call this a Match) Strike it against a ruff surface and BAM you have a small heating device in seconds.

The simplest one that comes to mind would be a small power resistor. Size it for the wattage (or BTU) you need. If you give more details, I can be more specific.
