Particularly, is the first summer of boot camp before or after the freshman year of college?

Marine Officer Candidates attend OCS during the summers between their sophomore and junior years and junior and senior years. Upon graduation from college, they are commissioned as Second Lieutenants. That's the way it happened for me when I went through. I was an enlisted Marine and went through the MECEP program to get my commission. I hope this helps. Good Luck.

No one escapes from taking basic training, regardless of how you come into the Marine Corp.

In the 60s, Boot Camp was done in the first year.not sure toda

I don't know about today, but when I was an instructor at OCS in Quantico, they were there during their freshman year.
