A Sloppy Joe is an old time American hot sandwich favorite. It dates in print to 1935. There is probably no Joe after whom it is named--but its rather messy appearance and tendency to drip off plate or roll makes "sloppy" an adequate description, and "Joe" is an American name of proletarian character and unassailable genuineness. It's basically mince beef browned and combined in a thick and spicy tomato sauce. (some put onions in as well) and served on a hamburger roll. If they sell Manwich in Oz, that's a Sloppy Joe. for a recipe, http://www.dianaskitchen.com/page/recipes03/0910_sloppyjoe.htmtry

Ground beef cooked in a way similar to chili, on a hamburger bun. Fun, sloppy to eat.
1 tablespoon instant minced onion
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon instant minced garlic
1/4 teaspoon celery seeds
1 teaspoon green chili pepper flakes
1 teaspoon cornstarch
1/4 teaspoon dry mustard
1/4 teaspoon chili powder
Combine all ingredients in a small bowl until well blended.
Spoon mixture onto a 6-inch square of aluminum foil and fold to make airtight.
Label as Sloppy Joe Seasoning Mix.
Store in a cool, dry place and use within 6 months.
Makes 1 package (about 3 T) of mix.
Sloppy Joes: Brown 1 lb lean ground beef in a medium skillet over medium-high heat.
Drain excess grease.
Add seasoning mix, 1/2 cup water, 1 (8 oz) can of tomato sauce and bring to a boil.
Reduce heat and simmer 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Serve over toasted hamburger buns.

Sloppy joe is a kind of meat cut into ball shaped pieces, it is with a mixture of tomatoe sauce-- combined it is really goo-y
you make it by buying the meat that is already cut into circled pieces and then add tomatoe sacuce and mix until the meat observes most of the tomatoe sauce

Cooked ground beef w/ barbecue sauce on it. Some people like putting chopped celery, chopped green bell pepper, or chopped onion in it, but we prefer just the meat and sauce. Normally served on a hamburger bun. The buns are great if you toast them in a pan with a little butter.

A Sloppy Joe is ... ground beef, browned with a catsup sauce. You can add onions, or celery, or whatever. You can just use catsup, or you can purchase things like ManWich and Del Monte's Sloppy Joe sauce.
If you use ground turkey, it is called a Sloppy Josephine.
