My cat seems to be sick. He is an indoor cat, about 13 years old. I am thinking that he caught a cold because it has been cold but then again he is pretty old.

His symptoms include drool/snot on his chin, does not respond when calling him, doesnt come to bed or do routine things, he looks out the window instead of sititng by the heater as usual, he is shedding more than usual and has a weird walk. This started yesterday, accroding to my mom (we do not live together).

I am affraid of taking him to the vet because I have had bad experiences with them. I had two of my cats in the past died a few days after taking them to the vet (separate times) and plus I do not have much money to take him. What should I do?

Sorry you have had bad experiences with vets in the past, but please take him in asap. Try a new vet. Call around to a couple places and see who you feel comfortable with. They can tell you how much they charge just for doing a general exam and maybe a blood test.

In the future I would do some research before an emergency arises. Go to a few vet clinics, meet the staff, find out what they charge for exams, tests, xrays. When I moved a few years ago I took my kitten to one vet out here for a checkup, but partway through the exam I told them sorry, but I really don't feel that comfortable here, I think I'll try somewhere else. They weren't the friendliest people to begin with and didn't seem to be as gentle and caring with my kitten as I would've liked. Just pay for the visit and politely leave. I soon found a vet clinic that I absolutely love. They are so sweet and take the time to talk to and pet your animal to keep them calm during procedures. Even the vet himself called me personally one time to see how Hobbes was doing shortly after being prescribed medicine for an eye infection. There are many good vets out there; you will find the right one for you.

Well good luck to you and your cat!

Sorry to say this but you need to take this poor cat to the vet.
I am not a vet or a vet tech but have had many feline friends.
Your cat sounds like it may have had a seizure, but only a vet can determine this.
One other thing , He is indoors all the time? Let me ask you this or really give you food for thought. Could your cat have gotten into and ate on of the following:

Poinsetta Plants or other plants
Moth ball or moth flakes
Mouse poison pellets
Cleaning Supplies ( licked anything like that)

The drooling and weird walk could also be signs of poisoning

Call your vet ASAP . I know vets are expensive. Find a vet who will work with you on payments if necessary.
I think in the past it was just unfortunate coinsidence ( cats were really old and maybe you waited to long)

I'll be thinking of you and your pet

You may have taken those other cats to the vet too late. I don[t think you should let those experiences keep you from helping your cat now.

I had a cat who just died at 22 and 1/2. Thirteen is not old by any means and senior cats do need regular vet checkups with blood work to determine if anything is going wrong. There are many treatable conditions and you need to get your cat there before he gets beyond medical help.

Having 7 years of animal rescue exsperience I would say that you are looking at and upper repertory infection. Try some zythromax, this can be vought online without a perscription and should not hurt you cat. Syptoms are like a human cold, runny eyes and nose, and not feeling good.
