Are you asking if you had a job, do you have to file income tax? Doubtful, you probably didn't make enough, normally your parents would claim you as a dependent.

A five year old has to pay taxes if he has substantial income. Age has nothing to with income taxes. So yes, a 16 year can do that as well but the norm is that usually for a minor, their parents or guardians, who supported you throughout the year, claim you as their dependent. BUT, even if your parents did claim you as their dependent, AND you had some income during last year, you must file taxes. Just because you are 16 years old, living with parents, doesn't mean that you don't file taxes even if made a million dollars last year.

So, remember that each person is counted only once. If you worked last year had some income, EITHER your parents or YOU can claim yourself as a dependent. If your parents claim you, you must put down zero. If no one claims you, then it would be in your best interest to put down one (yourself).

yes you can file even if your parents are claiming you. just make sure that you put on your taxes that you are a dependent if they are claiming you
