No other language "connect" them. It's taken directly from the Aztec language, like coyote (coyotl) and other words. That's how language works.
The Aztecs are the ones who introduced Europeans to chocolate.

Spanish was the first European language to translate the word, since Spaniards were the ones who discovered the Aztec lands (now Mexico).
The word "chocolate" in Spanish is spelled just like in English, but its pronunciation is very similar to the Nahuatl (Aztec) one: Choh-ko-lah-tay.
