Bring two quarts of water to the point of not quite boiling and remove from heat. Add eight teabags and with the tags hanging outside the pan put the lid on. Let it stand until cooled. Remove bags from water but only squeeze them enough so they're not dripping. Put half the brewed tea into a 1/2 gallon pitcher and fill with cold water until you see the desired strength. Pour over ice. You may not want to add quite so much water if you use a lot of ice in your glass or are going to put ice in the pitcher.
Eight teabags in a one gallon glass jar with a lid, left sitting on the back porch on a sunny day is the best iced tea you will ever drink. And you don't have to dilute sun tea; you just leave it out on the porch until it is the right shade of tea that you like; suntea will not be as dark as brewed tea. Adjust tea bags accordingly with either method.
Letting the water boil is what makes the tea bitter.

I always make Iced Green Tea. I have a gallon pitcher what I do is take 8 tea bags (you can use any tea that you like) and I fill a small pot (about 3 cups of water) up put the tea bags in and boil, once it starts to boil for 3 min turn the heat down and let it simmer for about 15 min. After that turn the stove off and let the tea cool for 20min. When its cooled pour it into the container you have and fill it up with cold water, and put in fridge to let it get cold. I dont add any sugar to my tea, but if you like to add sugar add it to your glass and not the whole thing.

I usually take 3 tea bags steep in 1 pint (2 cups) of boiling water for 5 - 10 minutes, this will be very strong tea. In quart size pitcher add ice, water, sugar, and lemon, flavor to taste.

I use loose leaf teas (mine is a green tea/strawberry blend) and let steep overnight. I use about 1/4 cup tea leaves to 8 cups of water. Put in a glass pitcher with a lid, put in the fridge overnight, and strain in the morning. Add sugar or splenda to taste and you're set!! I find tea baga leave a, well, tea bag taste. If it is bitter, you are letting it steep too long. Experimant with different flavours and brands too - it could be your brand. Green tea is not always the same. I found the same with one brand (Liptons) but switched to whatever they sell at the one gift shop in Waterton, Alberta and I have loved it since! Experiment, find a quaint little shop that sells a variety of loose teas, and try a few. When you find one you love, stick with it!!
