Fundamentalist Christians and many Jews say the Koran teaches and justifies the use of war, terrorism and other forms of violence in order to spread the Muslim religion and to conquer and enslave non-Muslims. But liberal Americans say that the Koran actually teaches Muslims to practice peace, justice and friendship with all peoples. I wish I could really know what the Koran really teaches. I've tried to read an English translation of the Koran, but I really didn't understand much of it.

I have read the Koran to see for myself what it teaches, and I find the bible much more violent. it does say the disbelievers are wrong but note it says Allah will punish them, NOT humans. Indeed quite a few times it says leave people of other faiths alone.
Each passage begins with Allah the Benificent and Merciful- Forgiveness is a major theme, as is kindness, and helping the needy.
I read the bible at school and was horrified by all the bloodshed, murder and violence. The Koran is nothing like that. Mohammed was a pacifist. It's just been twisted.
And I am not a muslim! I'm Irish catholic oroginally, though atheist now.

The Koran even mentioned treating "believers" in a justful way: [9.23] O you who believe! do not take your fathers and your brothers for guardians if they love unbelief more than belief; and whoever of you takes them for a guardian, these it is that are the unjust During a confrontation, if the unbelievers are inclined towards peace, Muslims is advised by the Koran to be inclined in a similar manner: 8.60-62 And prepare against them what force you can and horses tied at the frontier, to frighten thereby the enemy of Allah and your enemy and others besides them, whom you do not know (but) Allah knows them; and whatever thing you will spend in Allah's way, it will be paid back to you fully and you shall not be dealt with unjustly. And if they incline to peace, then incline to it and trust in Allah; surely He is the Hearing, the Knowing. EDIT The fact that verse 8.60-62 is in the Koran, is a proof that Islam advocates peace. People who are bent on bashing Islam will take any means to discredit it, ignoring any other similar positive verses in the Koran

The Koran teaches the same thing the Bible teaches in that sense. War, violence, peace and love.

Think of the genocide that Moses led, and the compassionate God that Jesus spoke about.

The Koran is the same in that sense. I swear nothing has caused such confusion and discord in this world than the institution of religion.

anything can be twisted in meaning. leaving parts out can completely change the meaning of something. when read in context, you can understand that islam calls for violence only as self-defense. if you saw the sentence "you are pretty ugly" and left out the last word it would completely change the meaning of the sentence. things are taken out of context that is a fact. and the same goes for the bible, people know how easy it is to read something and distort its meaning by reading it out of context and yet they dont understand when dealing with other religions. the context includes the history of the passage also. the Quran teaches justice.

the verses dealing with the pagans in chapter 9 refer to those that broke the treaty. verse 60:8 contradicts any other claims people make regarding the death to the infedel myth

fundamentalist Christians have been using the Bible for centuries to condone war, genocide, racism, classism and social hierarchies...it is not what the book says but what the person who reads it believes...both books are books of learning...teaching through parables, neither comes out and says one should do this or that...there are verses in both books that can be interpreted a number of ways...also you should know that neither book is translated exactly the way it was written...there are so many versions of the Bible because each sect wrote the one they wanted to read...

Mostly peace. False gods who made up and have taught false religions all over the world DO justify the use of war and terrorism and violence to spread false religions to conquer and enslave people to be their own slaves as spirits in the lower heavens.

Christians say this, yet their responsible is historically responsible for 20-30 million deaths, the most of any religoin. Just like any religious literature, it can be interpreted many ways. It can be seen as an inspiration of violence to a violent person, or a pathway to peace to a peaceful person.

1. Fact: Quran does not ask us to kill people out of the blue.
2. Fact: Quran does ask us to respond when we are being oppressed.
3. Fact: When we do need to defend ourselves, the Quran gives guidance as to how that should be done, and that is through equal fighting on a battlefield. Wage war openly. Not through secretive means.
4. Fact: The women and old and children are not to be touched during war.

As with everything, God makes sure there are laws governing it in the Quran.

It is a blessing to know, that we need to be good to each other, yet have the right to defend ourselves too.

the answer will be too long.

y don't u IM me at knowledge_seeker_898 or mail me at knowledge_seeker_898@yahoo.com i might be of some assistance to you.

but to clear ur mind anyway... if islam was spread on the use of a sword, then there wouldn't be a single non-muslim in saudi arabia or india. muslims ruled india and the subcontinent for like i don't-know-how-many years. but still 80% of the population is non-muslim. if muslims wanted to, they had the power to convert all of them to islam.

so i think i would go with the liberal americans

u might want to try these:-

There is no religion based on Yahweh( Jehovah, God, Guy upstairs) That is free of sin. From Constantine starting Catholicism to and throughout Christianity and Islam. The only one that is not ABSOLUTE evil is Judaism So the best thing to do.....
Step real close, come on.
the best thing to do is " run". shhh secret!
Islam allows every single commandment to be broken.
Christianity does too, but they have to repent.
It's really a sad thing. People believing in killing people.
