According to what I've read and heard, we die to ourselves, and/or we die to sin. We also die to the world.

And what did we die of? In the born-again process, I'd say the Holy Spirit. It's the Holy Spirit that does the born-again process, coming inside of us to birth a new spirit within us.

BTW, although the Bible mentions the words "born again" a few times, it doesn't overdwell on it. I think it focuses more on believing God and believing in Jesus Christ.

The definitive chapter on the concept of being "born again" is John 3.

6Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. 7You should not be surprised at my saying, 'You must be born again.' 8The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit."

I was spiritually dead and I can't pinpoint the exact time my spirit died, but I do know that what caused it to die was that I continually committed various sins. I do remember though when Jesus revealed Himself to me and I was saved, that was a little more than 6 years ago. And just so you know, the correct term is born again from above. God bless you.

There are a lot of ways to be born again, Nicodemus knows of the life renewal, Romans knew about a new life being with the law, and Jesus speak of being born again in 'water and spirit' to see the Kingdom of Heaven... which it seems to be far pitch from reincarnations, which deals with flesh.(John 3:1 - John 3:21).

But for your answer,is obvious of its absurdity, as you are well aware that I am replying to get your 10 points! Not just by spirit but by the flesh!... :o)

Then you are "Born again". It means that when you walk through the waters of baptism, you leave your old sinful nature behind and begin a new life as a Christian.

I didn't die.
my evil nature did and was relaced with one
more pleasing to God so that I may
spend eternity with God in Heaven.

3. "Verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born again, he cannot see the Kingdom of God."
4. Nicodemus saith unto Him, "How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born?"
5. Jesus answered, "Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter the Kingdom of God."
6. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
7. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again."

It is a metaphor. The old man died (meaning your old self, your ego/spirit) when you accept Christ in your life. He makes all things new again; therefore, you are a born again Christian.

John 3:4 -21

"How can a man be born when he is old?" Nicodemus asked. "Surely he cannot enter a second time into his mother's womb to be born!"
Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit[b] gives birth to spirit. You should not be surprised at my saying, 'You[c] must be born again.' The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit."
"How can this be?" Nicodemus asked.
"You are Israel's teacher," said Jesus, "and do you not understand these things? I tell you the truth, we speak of what we know, and we testify to what we have seen, but still you people do not accept our testimony. I have spoken to you of earthly things and you do not believe; how then will you believe if I speak of heavenly things? No one has ever gone into heaven except the one who came from heaven—the Son of Man.[d] Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the desert, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life.[e]
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son,[f] that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son.[g] This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God."[h]

When we are first born we are born (spiritually )dead due to Adam's disobedience, when we come to the realisation that Christ died for our sins and ask Him to forgive us and make Him Lord and Saviour of our lives, His spirit comes to dwell with in us and brings our spirits to life again...........Born Again! It's a Spiritual thing, not a bodily thing.

And the answer to your question is that Humanity has been dead since Adam and Eve (Spiritually) and we died of Disobedience (sin).

Spiritually speaking as I am still in the flesh. I was by faith Crucified on a cross with Christ and raised again in newness of life to worship him in spirit and truth.
