I'm only 16, but in my opinion, I don't think it's right to date until you're in college. Have you seen some of the guys at her school? If you have, you've probably noticed they're no where near ready to date. I mean, I even go to a private school and they're still not dateable. I also think dating in highschool wastes time that you could spend with friends and family. Think of it this way... she's probably only gonna be in school for another 4 years, so why date now when she has a whole life ahead of her after graduation. And how many people actually end up marrying their boyfriend from highschool? not too many.

I remember when I was this age, my parents wouldn't let me date so I would lie and do it any way. My parents never new I had a boyfriend until I told them I was 5 months pregnant at Fifteen. My suggestion is to talk to your daughter and see exactly she expects with dating. Be open and honest about how you feel and maybe you can meet somewhere in the middle. Make her feel comfortable even if you don't agree so she can come to you always.

Well I am turning 15 soon and my mother won't let me date till i am 16. However, dating depends on what you and your daughter consider a date. My mom sees dating as a guy taking me out and by OURSELVES, him paying, and us being aloud to kiss and hug and regular relationship stuff. But say I wanted to go see a movie with a bunch of friends including guys, that would be ok. Or if I just wanted to see a movie with a guy friend, that would also be fine as long as it was clear that we were just friends. I love my mother and I respect her because I know that she knows what is best for me. Try this solution with your daughter. Best of luck!

From another mother:
For me it depends on the maturity level of the girl. If she's a mature 14 who appreciates her schooling and her siblings and her pets and her family, then 14 year olds going out in groups sounds okay with me. I'd offer to chaperone to places like skating rinks. If you become your daughter's best friend (second only to being her mom first) and get to know who she pals around with by having them in your home you'll feel a whole lot more comfortable in letting her take the next step with boys out alone, with and without cars, etc. Just have a real good talk with her and let her know all the facts she needs to know about in todays dating world. One thing of major importance to get through to our youth today is that THEY MUST OWN BOTH THEIR OWN DECISIONS AND THE CONSEQUENCES THEREOF.
