Any monitor you buy today (or even the past 10 years) will be supported by XP. if your computer can run xp, i'm assuming the video card supports atleast a 800x600 resolution.

Depends on the display. You can run it at 640x480 if the display and video adapter support the resolution. Some emulators can bring the resolution down even more. Such as MAME.
