has anyone taken this before and what were your results from zoloft?

Zoloft has made the mellow man I am today. It keeps me from having road rage in traffic. It allows me to pause before I speak my mind. The DR claimed it may kill my sex drive but now I am hornier than a seven peckered Billy goat so that was wrong. It has seemingly lowered the amount of semen output and I lost 20 pounds because I became more active. Yep zoloft is great.

You are playing doctor with your drugs, including the prescription Zoloft. The alcohol and nicotine are giving you temporary relief. It takes awhile being on Zoloft or any prescription to start to work, and then it may not be the one for you. The best bet is to ask your doctor for honest input ... you may be surprised at the answer. What about counselling to learn how to cope with the intensity of the attacks? Drugs alone will not help. I really feel for you, cuz I bin there dun that. Staying clear of other stimulants will be your best bet, but we all learn our own ways. Even if it's not your thing, rather than alcohol and cigarettes using up your money, try working out with a trainer. It will be a move in a positive direction, use up energy, and may help tire you to get a good night's sleep. Hope you can make the right good choices soon.

I can not tell you that your doctor was wrong in prescribing an anti depressant for your problem, but what I CAN tell you is what my doctor prescribed for me for mine back in the early 90's, and why your body responds the way it is doing during an anxiety attack.
I was going full time to college at the time mine started and also working full time and a single mom with two children under 10 yrs old.
I have always been a drinker of caffiene drinks including coffee also.
My doctor prescribed for me Xanax .5mg three times a day and a beta -blocker medication, which this med is effective on your heart.
Now, do you know how you feel when say you get in a very heated argument with someone, you are feeling:
1. your heart races 2. you get flushed and hot, sweaty 3. your hands, body starts trembling 4. you feel the blood rush to your head 5. you feel faint or dizzy with these emotions.

Your body is doing what is also termed at the "flight or fight" syndrome, your body is producing adreneline, which increases your heart rate, your blood pressure, makes you sweat, etc.
Combine this with a large caffiene intake, such as me, and if you are overtired or stressed out about everyday life, you can find yourself at the most unappropriate times-have these physical symptoms happen. I have had them happen in the grocery store standing in a long line, driving my car (YES, this IS scary), before a test in college etc.
You are feeling this, "this is it, I am going to die, what is everyone going to think if I pass out here on the floor, how embarrassing."
THIS IS NOT DEPRESSION IN ANY FORM ! remember this !
After about 8 months of taking the Xanax (anti-anxiety med, which is also a narcotic) I gained about 25 pounds, and basically all i wanted to do was to eat and sleep. I weaned myself off of them, and continued with the beta-blocker med, tenormin.
The beta-blocker med basically, layman's terms, deters the adrenaline rush that you have been feeling when you get the attacks. Ever heard of 'stage fright?" Same thing happens with the adrenaline, and some people do take the beta blockers for stage fright, or also before a test in school.
Relax, you are NOT depressed and take faith, that there is a simple remedy for your attacks.
Simply take a deep breath, and release is very slowly, do this about 4 or 5 times until your heart rate returns to normal. Do this AT THE START of you feeling the attack come on, you by now, know you are beginning to have an attack, correct?
Ask your doctor to skip the zoloft and prescribe a beta blocker if you want to, should be no problem. The Xanax I would not recommend, as basically it keeps you in lala land and if you have kids and work and go to school especially, you can not afford to be sitting around all day doped up.
Good luck, and email me if you would like to . Anxiety attacks are scary- but you can train your body to overcome them.

I currently take Zoloft and have taken it for many years. It has helped me with anxiety and depression. I haven't had any bad side effects from this. Everyone is different and not all medications work the same. Give it a try and if it doesn't work for you talk to your doctor about it. Good Luck.

Zoloft works for me. I take a 100mg tablet once per day. I've been taking it daily for 7 years. If i don't take it daily i begin to drop into a very deep depression so i make sure i take it every day.
It changed my whole outlook on life and people and daily events. I love this drug simply because it works, doesn't leave me drooling at the mouth like some drugs can do.

There are side effects for some people, headaches, nausea, dry mouth and such, but usually they go away after you've been on the drug for awhile.

I took zoloft also, and noticed no improvement. No side effects, but no improvement either.

I've taken it before. It's only one of 2 that didn't have a lot of side-effects

It didn't seem to help me, but perhaps I didn't take it long enough. Right now I'm on Effexor. It seems to help some. It's tough getting off some of this medication, though!
