If your from another country, I would bring your Passport, because Hawaii became strict on personal ID's, and if your not local a passport would save a lot of confusion. Moreso, to travel to island to island in Hawaii, I would bring my passport, unless you have a United State License or Personal ID Card. We are the 50th State, but I've traveled from Honolulu Airport to Kahului Airport and the security was very strict, and I'm born in America. They asked for two Identification to verify the person traveling.

Hawaii is one of the 50 states in america. So, if you're an American citizen, you don't need a passport. It's the equivalent of driving to another state.

Isn't Hawaii still a state? No you do not need a passport for Hawaii, or Alaska, or any other state.

Not if you are a us citizen traveling in the us. Yes if you are stopping in mexico or another counrty. You will need a passort to return to any US state from foriegn soil

my spouse isn't suppose to be in the US cuz of visa problems but with only his drivers license, he was able to go to Hawaii to visit people.
