I know it is winter and all, but I ate a frozen hamburger for dinner tonight and it really made me wish I didn't live in Jersey (although I think that anyways). Anyway what do you use to barbecue with and why?

I like to use charcoal, with wood chips that were soaked in water, because it taste better, it gives the smokey taste. That's for ribs, beef the good meat, but if you are cooking some burgers, or dogs propane is just fine.

Propane is easier to clean and use, but charcoal adds more flavour to your food. If you are not serious about BBQing then I would get a propane BBQ. If you are more of a chef then go with a nice dome style BBQ and use charcoal. For lighting the charcoal I would use an electric lighter, that way you don't get the taste of lighter fluid into your food.

I use a propane grill but put charcoal in the little pan over the flame. I do this because propane is significantly easier to light and keep lit, but I LOVE the charcoal taste....best of both worlds!!!

the taste with a charcoal grill is alot better for some reason but it takes a little longer than gas because you have to wait for the coals to burn and turn white. with a gas you can light it and clean the rack then start cooking right away. They say you can get the charcoal taste by adding some fake charcoal bricks but i dont think so.

I use both. Propane for tail gating partys & charcoal at home. Propane is quicker, but I like the cave man feeling of charcoal.

Propane....only because it is cleaner and easier and quicker. I used to use charcoal and prefer the taste, but takes just too darned long to get going!
