While as a whole, recycling programs still does have problems, recycling manufactured materials is frequently a valuable resource that can be competive with the original. Take for example, gold is processed from mined gold ore that usually have only trace amounts of gold, which is why it's an expensive process involving much energy and chemicals. Never mind the environmental impact this usually has. Gold is used in computers for connections and fine wires. Recycling computers is then a alternate resource for gold, and actually has a HIGHER concentration of gold than usually found in gold ore! So it's an excellent business proposition. There are many other such examples, as with aluminum cans, which require far less energy to recycle into stock aluminum than it takes to refine it from aluminum ore.

Every pound of recycled material means that at least an equal amount of the existing natural resources will not be need to make up that pound.
Example, recycled aluminum cans could limit the amount of aluminum that must be extracted by mining.

Recycling normally saves energy and reduces pollution ... reduces the need for landfill space ...... allows natural resources to remain in good supply for demand ..... may reduce the need or imports ..... creates a local industry or business of recycling .... helps reduce costs .... and ..... reduces litter.

An important psycological benefit to many people that are willing to voluntarily recycle things, like cans and bottles and newspaper is --- it gives them the satisfaction of feeling like they are stewards of the land . And they feel they are part of a community of people that are concerned with future generations and the resources we leave to our grandchildren and greatgrandchildren and beyond .

Well in the first place goes less trash, in the second place goes economics (cheaper materials), in the third place goes harmony with nature. Good luck with your project!
